Minutes of the quarterly committee meeting held at the Zandvlei Imperial Yacht Club
19 January 2011 at 14:00.
1. Opening and welcome
Cassy Sheasby opened the meeting and welcomed all present. An attendance register was sent around and apologies received were read out.

1. Management Plan
Management plan available on the Zandvlei trust website. Motivation sent to council for more funds for working groups. Action plan for the next five years.
2. Water levels
The mouth is currently open and will close on Friday. Bob enquired the use of the sand
bar. Send Lynn information about sand bar.

3. Water Quality
New water testing points around Zandvlei, done by Scientific Services.No sewerage spills.
Bob: Management Plan states that the blind canals are cut once every season, should the blind canals not be cut more regularly.Cassy: February and March is the switch over time for new operator so weeds will increase. Will look into a cutting schedule.Martin: Suggests information on a website concerning pondweed such as no fertilizer on lawns.
5. Litter traps
Peter will put wheels on traps.Vanessa raised a concern about the amount of litter around Zandvlei.Cassy: A need for law enforcement.Cllr. Dalton: Will take the matter up with local
cleansing. Vanessa suggests that law enforcement participates in the meeting.
6. Doggy Doo bins and cleanups
Vanessa will follow up on bags for bins. Cassy: Stated that bins are not used much.
7. Park Island
Theft of irrigation system therefore water is switched off.The public will be fined for dogs that are not on a
leash. Sent in application to burn the brush piles.
8. Tube worms
Cassy: Management plan states that the tube worms in this area are not
indigenous. Student to see which areas are active with tube worms and what species.Residents are not allowed to remove any tube worms as they are good for the system, they filter the entire volume of Zandvlei in
Cassy: Another Mallard count will be done as there are estimated to be over 500 birds.
Cassy: Try to organise another fish trek with Oceans & Coast.Bob states that the carp are less.
11. Invasive Waterweed
Cassy: Having a meeting with IAS to discuss using Zandvleiís nursery to house
bio-agents. Sand river has a hyacinth problem.Keyser and Westlake river is full of every invasive water
weed. Cape Winelands needs to be contacted.Scientific Services needs to do adhoc water tests at the bottom of the
Constantia wineland areas.
Submit application for no fishing off bridges signage. Will enquire about anti graffiti film.

d. Visitor controllers and Law Enforcement
Cassy: One and a half months the controllers were not on site, but they have returned.The contract ends at the end of April. The Western shore is a lot better with the controllers present.
