Report for March 2016.
March was a very exciting month.
We had our 1st craft market at the Marina and we did well. With Easter around the corner people were in a mood to buy. The ladies decided to have another market just before the Easter weekend. Nazeema Fortuin joined us on the 9th March for her 1st class and many other knitting classes she will attend. We made Easter stuff and also had to make lions for the documentary Blood Lions that was showing at the Masque Theatre, Muizenberg. We all were impressed how fast Zeema learned to knit for her 1st time ever in her life. Miss Joan was excited to teach her new patterns so she could catch up with us. WELCOME ZEEMA.
City of Cape Town
Have not been in a False Bay Ecology Steering committee meeting for a long time and I was due to go. With Stevens intern keeping everything for the last minute Gavin already let me know the previous week so I was just waiting on her call, sms or email. Come now Nicola stay connected we have a year in front of us and a lot of things still to do.
Cecilia from Switzerland joined us for a month. Was good to have her because the school holidays just started and we needed more hands. She was a community volunteer and with all the kids she taught them new games and also helped our others to make food. Janik Glinz from Germany also came to see what the big fuss was that all volunteers were talking about. He is here for a month the group formed a bond and made each day full of laughs they even joined in with soccer practice lots of fun the kids had with them.
Prospur Spar, Plumstead
Every second day Mondays and Thursdays we get our rolls and with Easter the kids are treated with hot cross buns. We are very grateful to Prospur Spar for their contribution.
With the Easter holidays Pollsmoor had to reduce our porridge to once a week. The reason was that of 25 projects the numbers rises to 100 a week and to get to everyone he could only come once a week. Grateful and thankful we understand and even though we get porridge on a Thursday it lasts till the next week. Thank you very much for making us your number 1 priority and feeding our kids.
Christ Church, Constantia
For years Christ Church Constantia supports us with food to make for the kids . The ladies benefit a very big deal. In the school holidays the tins and rice is used to contribute towards the food we make for them and with the rolls they can always have something on like jam, peanut butter or fish.
Jan Vaethjunker an ex volunteer of Projects Abroad comes around every second year from Germany and buys the kids who are part of the project school uniforms. Jan came this month to come order uniforms from Yuneesas Fashion in Grassy Park and PEP Stores across the road for the kids. In total he will buy for 54 kids bags, uniform, shoes, caps, socks, shirts, pullovers, tracksuits etc if everything goes well he will be back in 14 April to collect and do handover and also pay some children’s school fees.
Every Sunday we played soccer and Steven Granger came out on the first Sunday with his sister and a international intern to come and watch the soccer.
15 kids went to the Masque Theatre to go see a play called the RIVIER OF LIFE transport sponsored by Zandvlei Trust.
50 of us went to Pride of Table Mountain and a lot of the kids went for the first time. What a wonderful day they had.
Nazeema, Veronica and I went to go sell our knitted animals at the Zanvlei Trust Fundraiser at the Masque Theatre showing a documentary - BLOOD LIONS. We had a splendid evening and saw a lot of familiar faces like Mr. van Ryneveld. We sold well at the fundraiser.
Human Rights Day the kids enjoyed soccer and netball matches at Zerelda Park Primary School sports field. The children enjoyed the Easter holidays and they also a lot of fun when the cleaning the litter in the Nature Garden area.
