Do you have 1/2 an hour per week to supervise and monitor the removal of the litter?

On the 7th April 2012 Gavin Lawson inspected and recorded what he saw.

The first net at the corner of the Sand River channel as it rounds the bend opposite Uitsig Channel.

Closer look at waht is caught but plenty is getting through.

The net is managing to hold back a large amount, but it is getting through.

A dead carp, an invasive specie unwisely introduced to the vlei and its catchment.

The hyacinth choked section from the last litter net down about 3/4 the way to the outlet into the vlei. 
If this plug holds it will help block the passage of the larger items of litter from entering the main water body.
The water current was moving at an estimated 500mm per second in this area.

Very urgent clearing is required at these points to start another round of junk and vegetation reaching the waterbody.

Who is willing to help the grossly understaffed Reserve staff get this litter removed? 

The waters of the Sand River entering the vlei. The litter is not apparent in the strong current except for small plastic wrappers, tops for bottles etc.

Appeal for help
The regular monitoring and clearing of litter from the net is an ongoing issue. It requires constant clearing, bagging and removal to the refuse dump site which City officals and their contractors fail to do for a variety of reasons.
