08/08/2015 - This nice size carp was caught today.

A local fisherman with a carp caught today at Zandvlei.

10/07/2015 - Thank you to the Mountain Men who succesfully caught the poacher they had been monitoring for a few months. Caught with his vehicle, matt black canoe, a gill net 80 metres long 
and a whole lot of fish. Marine and Coastal Management arrested him and hopefully he will serve
a long sentence with a heavy fine after prosecution.

24/06/2015 - Dozens of birds varying specie were in a feeding frenzy 23 and 24 June at the Rutter Road Pond. Cormorants, terns, gulls, darters, egrets, herons and kingfishers never seen before in such numbers or activity in 25 years or more by local residents.
What caused the tiny fish to come into the pond? Was it the coming large cold front bringing rain and cold weather causing the barometer to swing sharply. Was this the most sheltered area out of the main vlei which would become inundated with the flow from the catchment? Were the fish hiding beneath the waterweed in the Westlake River?

19/04/2015 - Fishermen trying their luck at Zandvlei.

Case Veugelers seen fishing at Zandvlei with a friend.

07/02/2015 - Case Veugelers reports today that when he pulled up his anchor, black goo was attached to the anchor and had a real pong...also the water was really black...it looked like a shadow had fallen over the water. When I came back to the area about 2 hours later, now with the wind blowing slightly the "black shadow" in the water was being pushed up into the shallower areas against the reeds.

Also fish caught in this area on Saturday were very sluggish to being revived and it took a lot longer before I could safely release them?

Then on Sunday 08/02/2015 the smell was not so bad, but noticed a green algae slick under the surface of the water, reminding me of the state of the water a few years ago before the golden algal bloom?
The boat was leaving a path through this stuff as I cruised along. 

The fish caught today were stronger in the release than the day before.
